ICAM commits to building capacity

he Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has reiterated its commitment to building capacity to enhance staff skill to enable them compete favourably. Also, the institute observed its 2016 Staff Long Service Award and Presentation Ceremony in recognition of hard work and commitment to service over the last 10 to 35 years, just as two Deputy Registrars disengaged after expiration of their tenures.

Speaking on the occasion in Lagos, President of ICAN, Otunba Olufemi Deru, assured that the council of ICAN will never take decisions on staff matters that would jeopardize its cordial and harmonious working relationship,  explaining that the ceremony was organised to recognise and celebrate hard work and achievements of staff members who had worked selflessly in the institute for 10 to 35 years.

He said the gesture will not only help to boost staff morale and improve their motivation to serve, but it will also inspire and encourage others who have not attained the minimum of 10 years in the service of the institute.

Accordingly, he said, “as an institute, we will continue to invest in staff welfare and capacity building as a strategy for improving the knowledge, abilities, skills and behaviour of our staff. This way it would be ensured that staff are continuously updated and can compete favourably with their peers wherever in the country.

“We shall continue to offer our staff the best of welfare package within the limit of our capacity both financially and otherwise. The council of the institute will never take any decision on staff matters that will jeopardize the cordial and harmonious working relationship we enjoy,” he said.
